Brian Bosire is a Kenyan thinker, innovator, and technology entrepreneur focused on emerging technologies in the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), applying them to solve some of the world’s biggest challenges.
At the age of 19, Brian developed a technology that reads soil in real-time to provide smallholder farmers, who have limited access to agricultural knowledge, with data-driven insights to optimize resource use, such as fertilizer and water.
He is the Founder and CEO of UjuziKilimo, an agricultural technology company that brings precision farming solutions to smallholder farmers, helping them increase productivity and combat food insecurity, which affects over a billion people globally. UjuziKilimo modernizes African farming by enabling small-scale farmers to practice precision agriculture and access actionable, high-quality agricultural information for improved yields. Brian is driven by a passion for introducing African-made technologies to farmers, reducing hunger, and enhancing food and water security across the continent.
He is also the Founder of Hydrologistics Africa (HydroIQ), the world’s first virtual water network operator. HydroIQ leverages sensors and data analytics to improve water access, utility distribution, and consumption. Brian founded Hydrologistics Africa in 2017, inspired by his experiences growing up in Kenya and living in Nairobi. Like in many developing countries, water in Kenya accounts for 11% of household income, yet taps often run dry for three or more days a week.
Brian is a United Nations Young Leader for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and has received numerous global awards and recognitions for his contributions to digital technologies in Africa. His accolades include Africa Pioneer in Agritech by Forbes, the ASME ISHOW Award, and recognition as a One Young World Ambassador. He was also honored by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for Digital Capacity Development and is a Leaders in Innovation Fellow (LIF) at the Royal Academy of Engineering. Additionally, Brian serves on the World Bank Youth Advisory Group on Solutions for Youth Employment (S4YE) and was featured in Vanity Fair’s Global Goals List (2019) for his advocacy for zero hunger. He is also a member of the Africa-Europe Foundation’s Strategic Task Force on Agriculture and Food Systems.
